Growing up in South Florida, Steven Washuta did not have any special interest in the wine and food industry, but after a semester in France, studying mechanical engineering, all of that changed. He developed a refined palate as well as an intellectual interest in wine, and as a result, decided to change career paths. 

In order to pursue his new-found passion, Steven transferred to a winemaking school in Walla Walla, Washington. After earning a 2-year degree, he began working for a couple of small wineries in both Washington and California. his palate stayed in the old world leading him to turn his experience into a career as a sommelier. Steven worked as a sommelier in San Francisco and Colorado before moving to New York to run the wine program at Felidia. Steven currently holds an advanced certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers and has not lost any desire to continue learning more about wine, beverage, and hospitality.

Steven brings his experience to Portale's wine program, where he has curated an Italian-based list that also features both classics and up-and-comers from all over the world. He believes wine is simply meant to be enjoyed with friends and brings a refreshingly down-to-earth style of wine service to Portale.
